What Are Other Mayors Currently Doing?

Many of our nation's cities are at the forefront of the green building and sustainably designed communities revolution. In fact, many cities currently require building design to meet sustainability rating specifications. Other city mayors have established comprehensive programs to help green their communities. To illustrate how cities are helping to lead this charge, the United States Conference of Mayors has compiled examples in a document called Energy and Environment Best Practices. In addition, many cities have created Web sites devoted to their municipal greening efforts. Here are links to just a few examples of innovative city green building programs for both the residential and commercial sectors:

  • Arlington, Virginia
  • Austin, Texas
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Boulder, Colorado
