AN EFFICIENT BUILDING PERMITTING PROCESS IS A POWERFUL ECONOMIC DRIVER
The American Institute of Architects recognizes a need to streamline the permitting process and identify innovative reforms that can be recommended as best practices to our nation's municipal leaders. Domestic building construction is a $1.1 trillion industry. Together, the real estate and construction industry are the largest single component of our economy, representing 20% of the Gross Domestic Product and over 70% of our national wealth. Unfortunately, far too often design projects are met with a confusing array of building regulations and inefficient review processes that can cause significant delays in construction time. Increasing demand for economic competitiveness is forcing many city leaders to find ways to cut across ineffective procedures in an attempt to create a more viable economic climate. Implementing measures to streamline the building regulatory process facilitates that goal by allowing construction projects to be completed faster, better, safer and at less cost.
The American Institute of Architects created and cross-linked materials on this CD to facilitate your use of streamlining resources in your community. It is our hope that the contents of this CD will provide resources that assist your efforts to streamline your community's building regulatory processes. The materials are arranged in the following categories: January Task Force Meeting, AIA/NCSBCS Survey, Convention Seminar, Streamlining Reports, and Alliance Tools.
