Designing Tool Systems: A
Discussion
In Part 2 of a continuing series about the evolving
digital tool system for architecture, Lamar Henderson, AIA,
outlines the properties of the likely future system that architects
will use for design, data storage, and building asset
management.
U.S. National CAD Standard Continues
to Grow and Develop
The U.S. National CAD Standard (NCS) will be more widely accessible
and useful to the entire AEC industry due to the new agreement
concerning its publication and distribution, signed earlier this
year by the AIA, the Construction Specifications Institute, and the
National Institute of Building Sciences. Find out how you can get
involved in its continuing development by joining the NCS Project
Committee.
Connecting the Dots: Understanding the Emerging
Digital Building Process
How is the new shared building model changing relationships between
architects, builders, and owners? How can architects best position
themselves in the critical role of project information manager?
What technologies can architects use today, and how can they best
prepare themselves to meet the future challenges of the brave new
paperless world of design? The TAP fall conference, to be held
October 16-19 in San Francisco, will answer these and many more
questions about the future of design, construction, and
operations.
TAP Fall Conference Sneak Preview
Read the AIArchitect interview with Jonathan
Cohen, AIA, about how to combine CAD-modeling techniques with
project management tools. Cohen, chair of the TAP Advisory Group,
will be a moderator and presenter at the upcoming TAP fall
conference, "Connecting the Dots: Understanding the Emerging
Digital Building Process."
