How Innovation in the AIA Contract Documents Could Benefit
Designer, Owner, and Contractor
Current AIA Contract Documents treat electronic data as direct
equivalents of drawings and specifications. Ownership is equated
with the right to use. With electronic data, a more flexible
approach, similar to software licensing, could be considered. The
TAP Advisory Group submitted these proposals to the AIA Documents
Committee.

An Open Letter to the AEC Vending Community
Building Information Modeling (BIM) has progressed from the seminal
work done over 25 years ago to the currently available programs
from architectural software vendors. While interoperability between
the emerging BIM data formats is critical, no consensus has emerged
concerning the best way to leverage the potential of this
technology. This letter recommends features that may be
critical to successful implementation of any BIM program on large,
complex architectural projects.
Respect for Copyrights Allows Creativity to
Thrive
From the Business Software Alliance, here are five simple steps
architecture firms can take to guard against pirated software
and become software-compliant in the ever-changing digital
age.
Building Connections: The 1st Congress
on Digital Collaboration in the Building
Industry
On April 30, 2004, the leading building industry
associations, government agencies, software companies, and academic
institutions convened for a coordination summit to make
connections, harmonize overlapping or competing efforts, and find

AIA Best Practices, Archives, and Case
Studies
AIA Best Practices are a compendium of the
practical knowledge acquired by AIA members in the real world of
architecture practice. The AIA Archives richly document
the development of the architectural profession in the United
States. The AIA Case Studies Initiative was launched to
develop a new body of knowledge regarding the practice of
architecture through rigorous preparation of architectural case
studies on a variety of project types. Find out how these AIA
resources can expand your knowledge and improve your practice!
