YAF 150at150- Podcasts for Young Architects

In February 2007, the Young Architects Forum (YAF) 15 Summit brought together leaders of the architecture profession from all levels to celebrate 15 years of achievements of the YAF. The summit provided a forum for attendees to engage in dialogue about issues facing the unique demographic of young architects. Together, we re-examined the YAF mission and developed ways to provide support and programming for the future leaders. As a legacy of our anniversary and the AIA 150, the Young Architects Forum is interviewing 150 architects who are members of the College of Fellows.

AIA Atlanta: An interview with the winners of Emerging Voices 2006
One of the exciting programs cited in the 2006 Emerging Professionals Award for Atlanta’s Young Architects Forum (YAF:ATL) was Emerging Voices. This program is an annual portfolio-based competition established by YAF:ATL and the AIA Atlanta Chapter, showcasing the work of young architects in Atlanta.

Ownership and Leadership Transitions
Michael Strogoff, AIA, discusses key issues architectural firms should consider when implementing an ownership and leadership transition plan. Topics include: what to look for when identifying future leaders; what prospective owners need to consider; and how to insure that transitions are successful after you leave. Michael also provides valuable guidelines for successful mergers and acquisitions.

MatriARCHitect
Architects lead complex and interconnected personal and professional lives. This life and work balance is not easy to achieve, but like all healthy systems the ability to positively adapt to societal and environmental change is essential. Sustainability of the architecture profession is, in a very broad sense, the retention, encouragement, and development of a diverse (female and minority) professional base that will be able to better serve an ever-changing society and client group. What does it take to make architecture a sustainable profession, capable of serving a diverse and rapidly changing society? What happens when the skills and abilities, firm investment and productivity are lost to female and minority attrition?
