AIA Kentucky Joins the Kentucky QBS Coalition
AIA Kentucky has joined with KSPE/ACEC-KY in the Kentucky QBS coalition, a group dedicated to promoting and expanding use of Qualifications Based Selection by public entities. AIA Kentucky members Joe Jones, AIA, Richard Polk, AIA, and Eric Zabilka, AIA have joined EVP Janet Pike, Hon. AIA at several meetings already and the coalition is off to a fast start. Additional industry partners are being approached to join the Coalition, and together we are developing resources including a web site, a QBS guidebook, a speakers bureau, and other assistance for public entities putting QBS in place for A/E procurement.
We have also been busy this summer spreading the word about the value of Qualifications Based Selection for A/E services in the public realm. On June 9th AIA Kentucky member Joe Jones, AIA and EVP Janet Pike, Hon. AIA joined with two ACEC-KY representatives in making a presentation at a meeting of the Executive Directors of Kentucky's Area Development Districts, organized by Commissioner Sandy Dunahoo of the Department for Local Government. The presentation was well-received and generated a lot of interest and good questions from the audience.
On August 24th, the Coalition also presented a workshop session at the Governor's Local Issues Conference at the Galt House in Louisville. In the session, Ms. Pike presented an overview of the QBS process, discussed why it’s used and provided implementation guidance. She also shared a list of available resources, including the KY QBS Coalition Resource Guide. This was followed by a facilitated discussion led by ACEC-KY/KSPE Executive Director Russell Romine with panel featuring individuals representing agencies which use and administer this process and contractors who see the real-world benefits.
Stay tuned for additional updates on progress being made by the coalition!
