AIA Wisconsin Director Election
The following two members have been nominated as candidates for Director on the AIA Wisconsin Board of Directors. There are two Director positions up for election by members this fall for a two-year term that begins January 2018.
JEFFREY C. RAASCH, AIA, Middleton, is NCARB certified, a LEED accredited professional and a registered architect in Wisconsin, California, Connecticut and Florida. Jeff is a design principal and partner with Madison-based Flad Architects, working both nationally and internationally across the firm’s nine regional offices. He is a skilled team leader and consensus builder known for his collaborative design approach in executing high-performance healthcare and research projects. Jeff received his Master’s degree in architecture in 1987 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning, where he has served as an adjunct professor. In 2002, Jeff was instrumental in supporting the AIA Wisconsin ARE Preparatory Program, developing training sessions for the transition to computer drafting for the design portion of the exam. Jeff has worked with the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) at UWM SARUP to establish and fund a sketch competition to instill in the younger generation the importance of hand-drawing as a critical part of the architectural vocabulary. As a Wisconsin native and a strong advocate for the architectural profession, Jeff would like to bring the breadth of his thirty-year career to take on the important role of representing the interests of AIA Wisconsin members.
LAWRENCE J. SCHNUCK, AIA, Whitefish Bay, vice president, senior principal at Kahler Slater, is a registered architect and an NCARB certificate holder. He received a BS in Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture from UW-Milwaukee. Larry has served, for the past two years, as a Director on the AIA Wisconsin Board of Directors with responsibilities for committee activities related to both programs and administrative affairs. As past chair of the Architects Section of the Wisconsin Joint Examining Board, Larry authored state continuing education requirements and worked to allow easier transition for Wisconsin architects to the national marketplace. While on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Architects Foundation, he served as WAF President and collaborated with other professionals to raise funds to support architectural education and scholarships. He continues to seek improvements to the profession through quality, diversity and inclusiveness in architectural design education. Larry has served as adjunct professor for design studios at UWM SARUP and has held leadership positions in numerous organizations, including UWM Alumni Association and Foundation Boards, UWM School of Health Sciences, ADEA Corporate Council, ARCW, and Milwaukee Art Museum Friends of Art. Larry is an innovative problem solver and works to provide creative solutions to important issues.
