AIA Alabama Accolade Award

I.             Purpose

The Alabama Council Accolade is intended to be the highest honor that the Council can bestow on the member of one of its Member Chapters.  It is intended to be peer recognition of service to the Council and the profession of the highest order.  It is intended that this award be mid-career recognition which would while rewarding achievement, be instrumental in assisting the outstanding Architect in receiving well deserved recognition and honors from others.

II.           Presentation

The award would be presented annually at the Council’s annual Convention. Presentation would be at a time and in a manner determined by the Council to befit the occasion.  The Council would have the option of not making the award in any year that a worthy candidate or candidates were not identified.

III.         Nominations

Nominations shall be received only from Alabama Council Councilors or Officers at a time and place set by the Council that allows sufficient time to complete the election and presentation procedures.  Nomination shall substantiate eligibility of the candidate and contain sufficient detail as to support the nomination, and in a format described by the Council. However, the nomination requirements and format shall not be burdensome or onerous to the nominator or the nominee so as to encourage nominations rather than to limit them.  Nomination shall be for the current year only and shall not be automatically continued in subsequent years without formal re-nomination by an eligible Councilor.

IV.         Election

Election shall be by the Executive Committee in secret written ballot. Election shall be held after presentation of the all the candidate’s credentials by the Executive Director or a member of the staff to the Council from an unbiased and neutral report prepared by the Council Office from information contained in the nomination and other sources.  In the case of multiple candidates, voting shall continue until one candidate receives a simple majority of the votes cast with the candidate receiving the fewest votes on each round being eliminated.

V.           Symbol

The symbol of the award shall be such as to distinguish the recipient in his or her daily business attire a well as to be appropriate for wear at formal or semi-formal occasions.  The recipient should also receive a token of the award suitable for display on wall or desk.

Past winners include: Phil Black, Bruce Herrington, Ty Cole, Gary Greenshields, Butch Grimes, Kristine Harding, Rob Walker, Linda Snapp, Jimmy Seay, Chuck Penuel, Don Brown, Scott Williams, Patrick Davis, Jamie Aycock.
