Retired Architects [Proposed Legislation]

Retired Architects

Proposed legislation (Assembly Bill 670) would allow retired architects and professional engineers to apply for an exemption from state continuing education requirements. Architects who are at least 65 years of age or have maintained an active license for a minimum of 30 consecutive years would be eligible for the continuing education exemption upon certification that they have retired from professional practice and no longer engage in the practice of architecture. The exempt individual could continue to use a title that clearly indicates to the public that they are retired (e.g. “Architect Ret.”). The Assembly Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform held a public hearing last week. Several AIA Wisconsin members testified in support of the proposal, including Jim Gersich, AIA, Thomas Hirsch, FAIA, and Michael Eberle, AIA. Gersich is one of the professional members of the Architects Section of the Joint Examining Board.
