Message from the President
Hello and happy 40th anniversary! I am very thrilled and honored to be the chapter's 40th president, our 5th female president and our very 1st Hispanic female president. It's taken time but we are finally seeing an increase of women in our field and in positions of power. With everything happening around the world, it is a great time to be a female and an architect, but most importantly, be in a position to make a difference.
Entering our 40th year, we have accomplished plenty to be proud of. As the second smallest chapter in California, and also one of the few unstaffed chapters, we've managed to be recognized and awarded for being "small but mighty". Receiving the 2017 AIACC AEP Chapter award provided us the confidence in our efforts. The last few years have been exciting and emerging years for our chapter. We revived our Design Awards Program at the beginning of 2016, held our 1st and 2nd Annual Casino Night event, provided BC student memberships and mentorship opportunities, implemented monthly Barchitecture gatherings and celebrated our first Archtober, which was a month of social activities. Our Roaring 20's themed Winter Gala and Mardi Gras Winter Gala were both memorable and successful events for our members, sponsors and special guests.
My plan for 2018 is to continue the fun, mentorship, education and increase value for our members. I will strive to boost participation & collaboration from our membership but also promote our presence in our community and with our educators and local politicians.
Here's to an exciting 2018!
