Annual Basque Dinner (1972-1981)
Ongi Etorri. Welcome, to the AIA Golden Empire chapters’ Annual Basque Dinner. An event often referred to as the “Annual Basque ‘Biggie’ with Wives”. These dinners were held every year in October from 1972 to 1981. The event was held at either Noriega’s or Wool Grower’s Restaurant. In 1981 the presiding president expressed his opinion of not holding the dinner that year. Perhaps he sensed the event was falling out of favor with the membership. That year the Annual Basque Dinner was held on Tuesday night, October 27that Wool Grower’s. Unfortunately, several members who indicated they were planning on attending the dinner failed to appear. As such the chapter was held responsible to pay for those dinners. That seems to have been the last straw for this once “biggie” event.
In 2018 we still highly regard friendship and camaraderie as our members once did. Maybe its coincidence or maybe fate but this year our Events Committee is planning an evening event in the month of October. On this, our chapters’ 40thanniversary, let’s get together with old friends and new to celebrate and honor what once brought our great Golden Empire chapter together. Please join us this year and help resurrect the once ‘Biggie’ event of the AIAGE.
