Architects, Interior Designers Celebrate at Product Runway Launch Party
Over 100 designers filled SKYWAY Lounge in downtown Rochester on Friday evening, March 1 for The American Institute of Architects Rochester Chapter (AIA Rochester) and IIDA NY Rochester City Center’s inaugural Product Runway fashion show Launch Party. Architects and interior designers are teaming up to design costumes inspired by iconic Rochester buildings and made of actual building materials. Product Runway will be part of Fashion Week of Rochester’s tenth anniversary this fall. Proceeds from Fashion Week of Rochester benefit The Center for Youth.
Fashion Week of Rochester co-founders Elaine Spaull and Meghan McNamara Mundy joined AIA Rochester President Jason Streb, AIA, and IIDA NY Rochester City Center Director Danielle Lewis, CID, to announce the kickoff of the competition. “We are so deeply grateful when people come to us and begin to celebrate with us what we do,” said Spaull, who is also the Executive Director for The Center for Youth, to the participants. “You will help save lives.”
Product Runway marks a way for designers to give back to the community in a creative and meaningful way. It is also a feature event of AIA Rochester’s centennial celebration. So far nine teams have entered the competition and selected the Rochester buildings upon which they will base their costume designs, and more teams are expected. Product Runway will grace the catwalk on Friday, October 18, 2019.
