2019 AIA/HUD Secretary's Award Recipient, Williams Terrace, Charleston, South Carolina, David Baker Architects
Through 2020, the Office of the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development teamed with AIA to celebrate projects that demonstrated that affordable, accessible, and well-designed housing sets important benchmarks in our communities. Starting in 2021, AIA incorporated these categories in the AIA Housing Awards.
The AIA/HUD Secretary's Awards offered opportunities in four categories:
- Category one: Excellence in Affordable Housing Design Award
- Category two: Creating Community Connection Award
- Category three: Community-Informed Design Award
- Category four: Housing Accessibility—Alan J. Rothman Award
All projects must have demonstrated design excellence, including sustainability, affordability, innovation, integration of natural and built contexts, and satisfaction of specific client needs.
