Historic Garfield School Development Construction Tour

See the progress of the adaptive reuse of the Historical Garfield Elementary school and the new Griot Housing Development nest door. One building is a historical preservation project and the other brand new as part of the same development.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore preservation strategies of an elementary school.
  • Discover programming spaces with the constraints of the existing school envelope.
  • Identify the Do's and Don'ts in Preservation.
  • Become familiar with preservation and adaptive reuse as a strategy for economic development in neighborhoods.

Hard hat and closed toe hard sole shoes are required. This site should be wrapped up for the day.

The elevator is not installed yet so you will have to be able to traverse stairs.
