Specialty Glass and Glazing and their Architectural Applications

This presentation will discuss various specialty glass manufacturing processes. The presentation will address benefits and drawbacks of each process. Manufacturing processes covered will be tempering, laminating and heat soaking. Decorative enhancement processes covered in this course will include etched glass, laminated glass and custom interlayers, digital printing onto glass and back coating of glass panels.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the difference between regular float glass and low-iron float glass.
  • Discuss safety glass, why it is necessary, and most common methods of providing safety glass.
  • Explore various methods of modifying glass for architectural applications.
  • Discuss large format glass panels, and the technical and onsite obstacles presented by their usage.
