The Humåtak Revitalization Plan, Project Scope and Goals

Thru interview, survey and investigation a team of AIA volunteers is developing a community centric long-range planning document for the municipality of Humåtak. This document will be used as a datum, a record of consensus, that captures the desires of the community and as a focusing tool for current and future resources. The goal of the AIA team is to assemble a plan that will inspire the community with several conceptualized projects that reflect the aspirations of the residents and will revitalize the village throughout the 25-year plan lifecycle.

Located in southwestern Guam, Humåtak is a small village rich in heritage which has existed since the beginning of the Chamorro People. According to Chamorro folklore, sibling gods Puntan and Fu'una created the Chamorro people on Fu'a Rock located on the shore of Fouha Bay just north of the village center that exist today.  This site is one of the most sacred sites on the island of Guam and distinguishes Humåtak from the other island villages. The mountains rivers and sea all come together in harmony to create the character and landscape of a village that has been cherished by the communities of ancient people, Spanish governors and clergy, modern-day Chamorros and every visitor in between.

The creation of the Revitalization Plan is scheduled to complete in May 2019. If you are an AIA member and would like to participate in anyway please contact one of our board members for more info.
