North Ridge, a 14-resident, memory care small house addition to Tacoma Lutheran’s existing assisted living building, reflects a high level of thoughtfulness and detailing in a relatively small project. The more prominent roofs give hierarchy to the building massing by emphasizing common areas and entries from the exterior, and the corresponding vaulted ceilings celebrate these same spaces on the interior. Stained cedar trellises and headers over resident room windows add warmth and scale to the building exterior.

Jury comments

North Ridge at Tacoma Lutheran is a wonderful execution of how this type of housing should be built. The large windows allow for ample natural daylight as well as views of the exterior landscape. The design  of this small house is simple yet impressive. The 14 bed Assisted Living/ Memory Care cottage is laid out well with appropriately scaled exterior, living, and private spaces.
