North Limestone Holistic Community Design

Aimed at growing equity in the community, North Limestone Holistic Community Design is comprised of solutions centered on housing, economic opportunity, public space and public art, and the environment.
The North Limestone Community Development Corporation is undertaking built projects in the North End of Lexington, KY that respond to community wants, desires, and input, and which push the envelope of what is possible in the community.
We have built a pocket park on a water utility property; have implemented a live/work zoning that is rooted in affordable housing and built innovative housing that both responds to the historical archetypes and vernacular as well as demonstrates modern building systems, materials, and space arrangements. We have a monthly pop-up economic development-rooted street fair and transformed a 50 year old tennis court into a street soccer court. Additionally, we've planted almost 100 trees and given out 70 rain barrels to combat undersized and failing storm water infrastructure.
It all comes together to attempt to combat the looming threat of gentrification, and demonstrates a model in which all community members can be heard and have their ideas realized.
