This project is one that was built entirely around the goal for equity. Design Build is a program run by I-NOMA's Project Pipeline initiative.
I-NOMA’s Project Pipeline Design-Build Program is a 12-week program that provides 20 students (8th-10th grade) with hands-on, real-world design experience while teaching social responsibility. This year’s Design Build program reached heightened potential, by sending out an RFP to select the most qualified partner for the program. Through this process, the Chicago Child Care Society was selected. The Chicago Child Care Society creates a strong family foundation to encourage the best chance for life success in African American communities. A generous donation allowed I-NOMA to partner with CCCS to revamp a previously underutilized space and create a proper reception and lounge space. The students worked directly with designers, architects, landscape architects, engineers, suppliers, and contractors to make their client’s vision come to life. Students were tasked with designing and coordinating the buildout of three interior rooms. The spaces include a lounge, work and meeting areas that the staff and visitors on the floor can share. The space received new flooring, lighting, furniture, and accessories, which activated the space and gave more people ability and reason to use it. Participation included 4-hour weekly Saturday morning building sessions as well as field trips and seminars.
