Our parklet design began by mapping a parametric approach that would directly react and enhance the surrounding context and needs of the space.

Our parklet design began by mapping a parametric approach that would directly react and enhance the surrounding context and needs of the space. After installation, not one passerby could refuse the space we offered them as a respite from the heat and hardscaped surroundings. Hidden underneath a tree, our structure became a small greenspace amid a concrete, brick, and stone jungle. This design took shape and tested our adaptability over and over. It took all our collective problem solving to figure out prefabrication, transportation, and construction. Our design went on to win, and we are now looking for locations to create a 30-year permanent parklet installation in the art district of downtown Richmond. The community is excited to participate in the next development, and we are excited to adapt, to overcome, and to build something that will remind the community that green space can be responsive, sustainable, and improve every life that experiences it.
