AIA Mourns the Loss of Beverly Willis, FAIA

WASHINGTON - October 3, 2023 - The American Institute of Architects (AIA) President Emily Grandstaff-Rice, FAIA issued the following statement today following the death of Beverly Willis, FAIA:

"With profound admiration and deep sorrow, we mark the passing of Beverly Willis, FAIA, a true luminary in the world of architecture. Beverly's contributions to our profession extended far beyond her impressive portfolio of buildings. She was an indefatigable advocate for women in architecture, tirelessly championing gender equality and paving the way for future generations. She held everyone around her accountable to do the same. Her legacy is not just in the structures she designed, but in the countless lives she touched and inspired. The American Institute of Architects is deeply grateful for Beverly’s immense influence and enduring spirit. She will be remembered as an architect who not only shaped skylines, but also shifted mindsets."
