2017 AIA Learning by Design Chapter Grants
AIA through support from the Armstrong World Industries Foundation offered grants to support AIA chapters K-8 education outreach programs. In 2017, 18 AIA Chapters shared funds to serve over 9,000 under-served students across the country. The following AIA chapters received grants: Chicago, Detroit, Albuquerque, Baton Rouge, Spokane, Seattle, Boston Society of Architects/AIA, Florida, Birmingham/N. Alabama/Mobile (collaborative), Buffalo/Western New York (collaborative), Baltimore, Columbus, Atlanta, New York, Kansas City, Triangle (NC), Washington, D.C., and Houston.
Learning by Design: AIA Albuquerque

Learning by Design: Boston Society of Architects
Through the Boston Society of Architects Foundation, We Design Together directly complements a Boston School Department's Kindergarten unit called Construction.
Learning by Design: AIA Buffalo
The Architecture + Education program (A+E) utilizes architecture concepts as a multidisciplinary form of active learning in elementary classrooms within Buffalo Public Schools (BPS).
Learning by Design: AIA Florida
The overall goal of AIA Florida's Architecture in Education program is to introduce 4th and 5th grade students, teachers, and families to the concepts of architecture and design and its very real impact on communities.
Learning by Design: AIA Seattle
AIA Seattle's Architects in Schools Program is designed to expose K-8 students of underrepresented racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds to architecture, and engage them in the design process.
Learning by Design: AIA Chicago
AIA Chicago was awarded a grant to support their Architects in Schools (AIS) program. The initiative focused on bringing members into Chicago-area classrooms to introduce middle-school students to the field of architecture and to discuss the broader theme of architecture as a change maker.
