Designing for Justice Positive and Community Connection
The AAJ Fall Conference 2026: Designing for Justice Positive and Community Connection will be held in Minneapolis, October 7-9, 2026.
This conference will explore the pivotal role architects play within the justice system, emphasizing the societal impact and community connection of justice facility design. Together, we'll explore how to build a more equitable and just system that empowers disenfranchised, poor, and underserved communities to thrive.
We'll examine the architect's role in creating justice environments that support better outcomes, including:
- Improved health and well-being
- Reduced incarceration rates
- Lower recidivism
- Reduced overall crime
The conference will also focus on how architects can achieve these outcomes through humane design principles, including:
- Integrating compassion and humanity into the architectural and environmental design of justice facilities to promote well-being for all occupants.
- Designing justice facilities that cater to the diverse needs of staff, visitors, incarcerated individuals, and their families, whle promoting inclusivity, accessibility and comfort.
- Creating facilities that not only serve their primary function within the justice system but also engage with and contribute positively to their local communities.
Attendees can earn up to 12 CE credits, including up to 8.5 HSW credits, depending on session selections.
