Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Pledge
This pledge brings architects together to make resilience a standard of good design, so communities are better prepared for what comes next.

Resilience starts before a disaster
Extreme weather is more frequent and costly—yet resilience is not always central to how we plan, design, and build. Too often, communities rebuild with the same vulnerabilities, spending time and resources recovering from impacts that could have been mitigated. This leaves them in a position where they’re exposed to future damages, repeating the cycle all over again.
Architects are already demonstrating how design can reduce risk and strengthen resilience. This pledge supports that expertise to bring resilience more consistently into projects from the start—helping people, businesses, institutions, and communities withstand disruption, adapt to changing conditions, and recover faster.
Sign the pledge on behalf of your firm and commit to working with clients, consultants, stakeholders, and communities to consider current and future risks in order to enable clients to establish priorities and make informed decisions about where investments can meaningfully enhance project and community resilience.
