America ByDesign is a magazine-style half-hour television program exclusively showcasing some of the best of American architecture from AIA members, from awe-inspiring architectural homes on the lake, to design that reflects culture and learning, to architecture centered on sustainability and collaboration.
AIA has exclusive first access to each episode in the series for the architecture community—ahead of the general broadcast. Just as AIA believes “design belongs to everyone,” ByDesign is committed to showcasing design in technology, living, science, and architecture to everyone. As associates and members of AIA are passionate about excellence in design, a collaborative partnership with the ByDesign series is a natural fit!
Episode 3 begins the Mingei International Museum in San Diego is a project of restoring and re-energizing a historic Balboa Park landmark. Then, we showcase The Playground, a whimsical underground amenity space beneath a historic New York skyscraper. Next in Atlanta, Georgia the new Trees Atlanta Headquarters is a once-forgotten industrial site revitalized into a stunning campus that reflects the organization's ecological mission. Finally, discover Blue Oak Landing in Vallejo, California, a zero-energy supportive housing project that sets a new bar for sustainable and resilient design.
This episode begins in Atlanta, Georgia, with Ten 5 Summerhill, a new townhome development designed to reflect contemporary urban living. Then, we showcase a unique hotel combining creative energy and playful design—The Shay at Ivy Station in Culver City, California. Next, discover Oasis at 767 Third Avenue in New York, a project that's transformed a circa-1980s building into a modern hub for office occupants. Then, there's the Seattle Convention Center Summit Building, a project helping to redefine the city's urban core. Finally, we spotlight visionary designer Sarah Kay, CEO of Woods Bagot, featuring award-winning designs such as The StandardX, 80 Collins, and Woods Bagot Melbourne Studio.
Season 4 of America ByDesign kicks off with five incredible projects. We begin in Seattle, Washington, with the expansion of the stunning Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion. Next, we visit Ponce City Market in Atlanta, Georgia, a historic building transformed into a bustling hub of culture, food, and retail. Then, the Great Dharma Chan Monastery in Colorado makes a statement about sustainable design. In New York, we showcase The Treadwell, a residential tower that blends the classic Art Deco style of Manhattan with contemporary design. Finally, we head to Orange County, California, to the Sandi Simon Center for Dance at Chapman University—a former orange-packing house that has been beautifully reimagined for the next generation of artists.
