Approval of the AIA Strategic Plan & focus on regenerative design
March 10, 2026, board meeting
The AIA Board of Directors officially ratified the AIA Strategic Plan 2026–2030. This plan represents a major step forward in how we support your career, strengthen your firm, and elevate the architecture profession.
Here are three key updates from the March board meeting:
- We are setting the PACE
The board approved the new strategic plan, which establishes AIA’s mission, vision, guiding principles, and four strategic goals—practice, advocacy, climate, and equity (PACE). The plan is designed to strengthen architect careers, support resilient firms, and position the profession to lead amid economic, environmental, and social change. - Advancing regenerative design
AIA is launching a comprehensive implementation plan to make regenerative design a defining framework for our profession. The effort will focus on building internal understanding, integrating regenerative principles into advocacy, research, education, and communications, and elevating architects as leaders in climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, and community well-being. - Equipping you to navigate AI
Artificial intelligence continues to shift how we work. To help you understand and responsibly adopt AI in your practice, the AIA AI Task Force is developing guidance and educational resources. The work emphasizes transparency, ethical use, and increased focus on the impacts of AI technologies affecting the profession and the built environment.
As we roll out these new initiatives, please stay updated on AIA's ongoing advocacy efforts. AIA relies on your voice to champion the value of architecture at the local, state, and national levels.
