AI Task Force
The AIA AI Task Force is leading efforts to address the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in architecture. By developing resources, guidance, and educational programming, the task force ensures architects can adopt AI responsibly, ethically, and innovatively while advancing the profession.

Artificial intelligence: position statement and guidance
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is committed to supporting architects as they navigate the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the profession. To guide this journey, AIA has released two foundational resources:
AIA Position Statement on Artificial Intelligence
The AIA Position Statement on Artificial Intelligence outlines the Institute’s perspective on AI as a powerful tool that is reshaping the future of architecture. It emphasizes the importance of:
- Upholding architectural values and professional accountability.
- Protecting the public interest.
- Leveraging AI to enhance design excellence, sustainability, and innovation.
Guidance for the Responsible Use of AI
The Guidance for the Responsible Use of AI by Architecture and Design Firms provides practical, firm-level recommendations to support responsible AI adoption. Key focus areas include:
- Professional responsibility: Ensuring AI supports, not replaces, professional judgment.
- Data governance: Safeguarding privacy, intellectual property, and transparency.
- Workforce development: Supporting mentorship, training, and equitable opportunities.
- Business resilience: Evolving business models to align with AI-driven efficiencies.
Looking Ahead: AI Resources and Education
Building on this foundation, AIA will continue to advance AI-related initiatives in 2026, including:
- AIA small firm AI toolkit: Practical tools, templates, and resources for firm-level AI integration.
- AI-focused education: Expanding AI literacy and ethical awareness through AIAU courses.
- AI symposium at AIA26: A full day of programming in collaboration with the Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Knowledge Community.
Meet the task force
