AIA Codes & Standards Committee
The AIA Codes and Standards (C&S) Committee is the leading voice in developing and adopting national codes and standards. The C&S Committee optimizes the architect's role by promoting the built environment's health, safety, and welfare during the codes and standards development process while strategically collaborating with industry stakeholders.

About the Committee
The C&S Committee broadens the tent by being a platform for knowledge and information sharing, and through education and training on the codes and standards development process.
AIA’s Codes and Standards Committee’s goals include but are not limited to:
- Optimizing the role of the architect by building a strong codes and standards network of AIA members and components that are engaged in the development and adoption process.
- Broaden the tent by being AIA’s platform for knowledge and information sharing.
- Provide education and training on the codes and standards development process.
- Ensure that AIA has robust representation on high-priority major code-developing committees (such as the International Code Council (ICC) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE))
The 2026 volunteer application process is now underway. Appointments will be made and nominees will be notified in mid-September.
