Advocacy: The Architect’s Voice in Washington, DC

Be a Voice for Positive Change
AIA’s Advocacy team has the chief responsibility of leading on government affairs and policy. We advise, coordinate, and educate our 100,0000 members how to best advocate on issues that support the business of architecture and strengthen the architect’s role in shaping communities. We fight for policies that are fair to architects such as governmental contracting and tax policies. And we fight for those that make our communities better places to live, work and play such as: promoting investment in housing and resiliency. The government affairs team within Advocacy works with lawmakers to advance legislation that drives economic growth and creates opportunities for architecture firms of all sizes. Whether you're a business owner, design professional, or policymaker, explore how AIA is championing policies that protect and enhance the practice of architecture. Please join with us. Add your voice to ours and others. Together we can shape a thriving future for the profession and the built environment.

Federal policy issues
The more involved members are at the federal level, the greater the positive impact on businesses, communities, and the profession at large. State & local issues
Every advancement starts at home. When architects work with state and local elected officials, they influence positive outcomes on the issues that matter most to their communities. This means having a seat at the table when important civic decisions are made.

International efforts
AIA’s global drive for change involves providing resources for members practicing overseas, coordinating and maintaining bilateral agreements with international architectural organizations, and supporting international chapters in Canada, Continental Europe, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.
