Anna Wu, FAIA

Wu is the associate vice chancellor for facilities services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She previously served as university architect and assistant vice chancellor for facilities operations, planning, and design where she was responsible for the planning, design, maintenance, and operations of the university’s academic buildings, research facilities, residence halls, grounds, and landscapes. Wu was elected to the College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects in 2009. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University.

Women in architecture are a dynamic and influential segment in the profession, but when looking at leadership roles we also ask-Where are they? AIA champions a diverse profession and part of this effort is directed at women through leadership development, career resources, and a strong peer network. With this support, increasing prominence, and a greater sense of belonging, women are transforming the profession now and will continue to do so for future generations.

AIA recognized for Materials Pledge by professional society

The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) is recognizing The American Institute of Architects (AIA) with its 2022 Power of Associations Awards for the development and implementation of the Architecture & Design Materials Pledge, the Disaster Assistance Program, and the Blueprint for Better (B4B) campaign. The Architecture & Design Materials Pledge is being honored with a Summit Award, ASAE’s top honor recognizing the unique and indispensable role associations play around the world in bettering communities, fostering volunteer efforts, and harnessing the collective will and expertise of their members to ensure a better quality of life. Sandra Madison, AIA

Sandra Madison is CEO and chairperson of Robert P. Madison International Inc., a Cleveland-based company that was the first Black-owned architectural firm in the Midwest. Madison chaired the Cleveland chapter of AIA’s Women in Architecture and is part of the National Organization of Minority Architects.
