Join Advocacy in Taking Action
Use your voice to shape a better built environment—join AIA Advocacy in taking action toward policies that empower architects and strengthen architectural firms.

Architecture is about stability, innovation, and resilience.
But right now, uncertainty in government policies and funding decisions is threatening the profession, our firms, and the communities we serve. Architects cannot afford to wait and watch. Now is the time to Spring Into Action.
Throughout spring, AIA members will engage with legislators at the federal, state, and local levels to advocate for policies that protect and promote architectural businesses, design excellence, sustainable and resilient communities, and access to housing.
Chief Architect Initiative
AIA’s Chief Architect Initiative seeks to encourage mayors to hire a Chief Architect and appoint architects to key leadership roles throughout local government. Mayors of cities large and small face complex challenges requiring the expertise of licensed design professionals, yet few have architects in these key positions of leadership. A Chief Architect is critical in transforming a mayor’s vision for the built environment into a reality.
The program is designed to be scalable to meet the unique needs of each community, from a targeted appointments to zoning and planning boards to a full service Office of the Chief Architect.
Architects in Elected Office
As highly educated professionals, architects bring critical insight and imagination to the many challenges facing cities, states and the nation. It is vitally important that architects apply their unique skills, knowledge, and experience to address these complex challenges with thoughtful, nuanced solutions.
The Architects in Elected Office Program is aimed at AIA members who are interested in serving in a local, state, or federal office. If you plan to run for office at any level, or are interested in serving on a volunteer board or commission, AIA can provide important information and assistance to help you succeed.
